# Product design

Byron's brief is dark bodies and boxes with white lettering: quiet, precise hardware with one mass, matte contact surfaces, no RGB decoration, and no lit logo.

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

No entry has a verified Thorbis specimen or states/accessibility evidence. Source links are research support, not proof. Promotion requires the AGENTS.md research intake gate and a recorded decision with actual specimen, state, accessibility, and verification evidence.

## Form language

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

A Thorbis product reads as one dark object from across the room. Seams, fasteners, and cables show up only when someone is close enough to use them.

### One mass at a glance.

`pd-form-one-mass`

Status: proposed.

The first read is a single body: a slab, a box, a chair, a case. Vents, ports, and fasteners sit on the back or in shadow. Do not break the silhouette with fins, ribs, or fake vents.

Why: A tech across the counter should see one dark object, not a pile of panels, screws, and vents.

### Hide the cables.

`pd-hide`

Status: proposed.

Route power and signal inside the product. A desk, a terminal, or a field case gets one cable to the wall, or none. Controls sit flush with the surface they live on.

Why: A cable hanging in the photo is the first thing a customer notices, and it reads as unfinished.

### One radius family.

`pd-form-one-radius`

Status: proposed.

Pick one corner radius for the body and stay with it. A sharp edge and a pillowed edge on the same object look like two products joined late.

Why: Mixed sharp and soft corners on one body look like two products bolted together.

### Part lines are straight and few.

`pd-form-part-lines`

Status: proposed.

A seam follows a main axis and lines up with the next seam. If a split does not let you service, assemble, or change a material, remove it.

Why: A wandering seam looks like a crack; a straight seam looks like it was drawn.

Sources: [Apple Newsroom, 2008 unibody MacBook](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2008/10/14New-MacBook-Family-Redefines-Notebook-Design/), [ZDNET, TITAN Evo review](https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/home-entertainment/secretlab-titan-evo-2022-series-gaming-chair-review/)

### Detail is the second read.

`pd-form-second-read`

Status: proposed.

Texture, a joint, and the mark appear when the product is in the hand. They do not compete with the silhouette. Secretlab's magnetic covers hide the screws; the chair still reads as one chair.

Why: The first glance is the shape; the joint and the mark are for the person who picks it up.

## Materials and finish

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

Name a material only when you can measure it. The large surfaces stay matte and dark. The surface a hand rests on is specified on purpose.

### Name only what you can measure.

`pd-name`

Status: proposed.

A material or mechanism gets a proper name only with one measurable claim. NEO is 12x more durable than regular PU leather. SoftWeave Plus is 3.5x stronger than its predecessor. Ordinary screws, foam blocks, and cables stay unnamed.

Why: A coined name with no number is a slogan; a name plus one measurement is a spec.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Secretlab SoftWeave Plus](https://secretlab.co/pages/softweave)

### One claim, its measurement, and its source.

`pd-proof`

Status: proposed.

Every product claim has evidence for that specific property on a page a buyer can open, with the measurement, method, conditions, and comparison baseline where applicable. Name the model, generation, operating mode, region, exclusions, and required accessories beside the claim where applicable; a broader headline cannot drop those limits. Recycled-content percentage supports recycled content; it does not establish strength, durability, or a material grade.

Why: A true number about a different property, such as recycled content offered as proof of strength, still tells the buyer a false story.

Sources: [Apple Environment](https://www.apple.com/environment/), [Apple Newsroom, recycled content and fiber packaging](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/04/apple-accelerates-progress-with-highest-ever-recycled-material-in-its-products/), [Apple Newsroom, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/03/apple-introduces-macbook-pro-with-all-new-m5-pro-and-m5-max/), [Apple Environmental Progress Report 2026](https://www.apple.com/environment/pdf/Apple_Environmental_Progress_Report_2026.pdf), [Dyson V11 Extra, specifications and conditions (study receipt, 9 October 2026)](https://www.dyson.com/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/v11/extra-iron), [Dyson V15 Detect professional edition, technical specification, 15 June 2023](https://www.dyson.com/content/dam/dyson/for-business/business-refresh/docs/us/vacuums/US%20Dyson%20V15%20Detect%20Pro%20tech%20spec.pdf), [Nothing Phone (3) sustainability report, packaging and repair claims](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0376/5420/0459/files/Phone_3__Sustainability_Report_2025.pdf?v=1757329196)

### One sheen on the body.

`pd-finish-one-sheen`

Status: proposed.

Large surfaces are matte. A tighter sheen is allowed on a small control, an edge, or a glass panel, and nowhere else. Gloss next to matte on the same face reads as a scuff.

Why: A glossier patch on a matte body looks like wear; the buyer will think the finish failed.

Sources: [iFixit, dark aluminum anodizing](https://www.ifixit.com/News/86128/how-apple-made-the-space-black-macbook-pro-darker-than-ever), [MacRumors, dark MacBook Pro finish](https://www.macrumors.com/2023/10/30/apple-unveils-new-space-black-color-for-m3-pro-and-m3-max-macbook-pro/), [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series)

### Specify the surface under the hand.

`pd-material-touch`

Status: proposed.

Say what the palm, wrist, or forearm touches, and why: cold-cure foam for pressure, a knit for heat, a mat so steel is not the work surface. The spec table names that material.

Why: Hands and forearms rest on that surface the whole time the product is in use, so it decides how the product feels more than any part the person never touches.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Secretlab SoftWeave Plus](https://secretlab.co/pages/softweave), [PCMag, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/secretlab-magnus-pro)

### Put the durable material where it wears.

`pd-material-wear`

Status: proposed.

Armrest tops, desk edges, feet, and handles take the abuse. Call out that material in the spec, and make the worn part replaceable. A soft show surface on a wear edge fails first.

Why: The first worn spot sets how old the whole product looks, so the toughest material belongs on the tops, edges, feet, and handles that take daily contact.

Sources: [CloudSwap Technogel armrest manual](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-cloudswap-technogel-user-manual.pdf), [ZDNET, TITAN Evo review](https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/home-entertainment/secretlab-titan-evo-2022-series-gaming-chair-review/), [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series)

### Name the metal, and update it when it changes.

`pd-metal-plain`

Status: proposed.

Microsoft's 18 June 2012 Surface release describes a magnesium casing molded as thin as 0.65 mm. The Surface Pro 7 fact sheet calls the body magnesium. The Surface Pro 11th Edition fact sheet calls the casing anodized aluminum, and its enclosure note says the bucket and the kickstand use 100 percent recycled aluminum alloy under UL 2809-2. Say the metal and the process. When the metal changes, change the spec. A coined process name does not stand in for the metal.

Why: Surface moved from magnesium to aluminum between generations, so a spec that names the metal once and never updates it turns false.

Sources: [Microsoft, Surface announcement, 18 June 2012](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/microsoft-announces-surface-new-family-of-pcs-for-windows-159500445.html), [Surface Pro 7 fact sheet, October 2019](https://news.microsoft.com/wp-content/uploads/prod/sites/562/2019/10/Surface-Pro-7-fact-sheet-10-3.pdf), [Surface Pro 11th Edition fact sheet, 2024](https://news.microsoft.com/wp-content/uploads/prod/sites/691/2024/06/Surface-Pro-Fact-Sheet-1.pdf)

### Name the fabric, and print how to clean it.

`pd-fabric-care`

Status: proposed.

The May 2017 Surface Pro note describes a keyboard wrapped in coated Alcantara that is durable and stain resistant. The Surface Pro 11th Edition Flex Keyboard fact sheet lists Alcantara as the exterior material, next to Slim Pen storage. The Signature Type Cover support page says to wipe the material with a slightly damp lint-free white cloth, to clean a spill within 30 minutes, and not to apply liquids directly to the Surface, and it says that cover does not fit Surface Pro X, Surface Pro 8, and later. Name the textile, the feel, and the care method for the cover that actually ships. A fabric brand is not a finish name for the metal body.

Why: The cover under the palms needs a material name and a cleaning method, or the first stain becomes the product.

## Color

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

The core line is a dark body with white lettering. Finishes use plain material descriptions; Thorbis electric blue is the only brand accent.

### The flagship is dark.

`pd-dark`

Status: proposed.

Ship the core product in one dark finish, with dark boxes and white lettering. Keep the flagship body quiet; a material finish does not introduce another brand accent.

Why: A dark body with white type still looks like Thorbis in five years; a loud flagship color does not.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [ProSettings, MAGNUS Pro review](https://prosettings.net/reviews/secretlab-magnus-pro-review/), [Secretlab SoftWeave Plus](https://secretlab.co/pages/softweave)

### White lettering on the dark body.

`pd-color-white-type`

Status: proposed.

Words on the product are white or near-white. That is the Thorbis mark in a shop, in a van, and in a photo. Do not print the core wordmark in a second color.

Why: White lettering on a dark body is how the name stays readable in a shop and in a photo.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Apple Newsroom, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/03/apple-introduces-macbook-pro-with-all-new-m5-pro-and-m5-max/)

### The brand accent is Thorbis electric blue.

`pd-color-one-accent`

Status: proposed.

Decorative stitching and brand accents use Thorbis electric blue only. A semantic status hue must represent a documented state and carry a word, number, or position as a second cue; it is never decoration. A limited finish describes the material and cannot become a second brand accent.

Why: Electric blue keeps hardware in the same Thorbis family without turning a status signal into decoration.

### Match color across materials.

`pd-color-match-materials`

Status: proposed.

Metal, glass, and polymer on one body are matched so they read as one block. If the glass and the frame take the same pigment differently, correct it. A mismatched band looks like a part left over.

Why: Glass, metal, and polymer that do not match read as a stack of parts, not one object.

Sources: [MacGeneration, matching glass and metal color](https://www.macg.co/aapl/2026/09/des-couleurs-aux-materiaux-les-designers-dapple-racontent-la-creation-des-produits-311331), [iFixit, dark aluminum anodizing](https://www.ifixit.com/News/86128/how-apple-made-the-space-black-macbook-pro-darker-than-ever), [Apple Newsroom, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/03/apple-introduces-macbook-pro-with-all-new-m5-pro-and-m5-max/)

### Name the finish in Thorbis words.

`pd-color-edition-named`

Status: proposed.

Describe the actual color, material, and making process in plain words, such as black anodized aluminum or matte black polymer. Do not adopt a competitor's finish names. The line name stays the same when the finish changes.

Why: Plain finish descriptions help an owner choose the material without borrowing another brand's names.

## Typography on products

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

Hardware gets one face, one making method per surface, and enough contrast to read at arm's length. Nothing on the object is a paragraph.

### One face on the object.

`pd-type-one-face`

Status: proposed.

Use the brand wordmark's typeface for every printed, etched, or embroidered word. A second display face on the hardware looks like a label added in the factory.

Why: Two typefaces on one object look like a label was added later.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [MacBook Pro](https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/)

### One method per surface.

`pd-type-method`

Status: proposed.

Textile is machine-embroidered. Metal is etched or engraved. A dark panel may be printed. Do not embroider, etch, and print on the same face.

Why: Embroidery, etch, and print on the same face fight; use the method the material already wants.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [TITAN Evo technical specification](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-titan-evo-technical-specification.pdf)

### Readable up close, quiet across the room.

`pd-type-size`

Status: proposed.

A label on a desk product is readable at arm's length. On a large body the mark is small enough to disappear from across the room. If it reads like signage, it is too big.

Why: A mark you cannot read at the desk is vanity; a mark you can read across the room is a billboard.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Apple Newsroom, 2008 unibody MacBook](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2008/10/14New-MacBook-Family-Redefines-Notebook-Design/)

### White, or one step off the body.

`pd-type-contrast`

Status: proposed.

Lettering is white on the dark body, or a tonal mark one step lighter or darker than the surface. Mid-gray on black fails under shop lights and in photos.

Why: Mid-gray on a black body disappears under shop lights and in photos, so the name is lost exactly where people look for it.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [iFixit, dark aluminum anodizing](https://www.ifixit.com/News/86128/how-apple-made-the-space-black-macbook-pro-darker-than-ever)

### Short labels, not a warning block.

`pd-type-case`

Status: proposed.

Names and short labels only. Sentence case, or the product's own name case. A block of capitals on the object looks like a regulatory sticker.

Why: A paragraph of capitals on hardware looks like a warning sticker, not a name.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Apple Newsroom, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/03/apple-introduces-macbook-pro-with-all-new-m5-pro-and-m5-max/)

## Lighting and status

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

Light is a status, not a style. A Thorbis product is dark when it is idle. Each light means one thing, and color is never the only cue.

### As few lights as there are states.

`pd-light-few`

Status: proposed.

Add a light only for a state the person must see without reading a screen: power, fault, charging, height. Off is a state. Do not add a light because the product looks empty.

Why: Every extra LED is a question; if the product is fine, it should look quiet.

Sources: [PCMag, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/secretlab-magnus-pro), [Mediaberry, MAGNUS Pro review](https://mediaberry.co.uk/secretlab-magnus-pro-desk-review/), [MacBook Pro](https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/)

### White for neutral status; semantic color for a state.

`pd-light-white`

Status: proposed.

Use white for a neutral status light. A semantic hue must name a documented state, use the existing status meaning, and include a second cue beyond color. Thorbis electric blue remains the only brand accent. No decorative RGB cycles, chase, or underglow on the core product.

Why: White reads as neutral on a dark body and keeps color free to mean a state; a light colored for looks teaches people to ignore color.

Sources: [PCGamesN, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcgamesn.com/secretlab-magnus-pro-review), [Windows Central, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/pc-gaming/secretlab-magnus-pro-review), [MacBook Pro](https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/)

### Color is not the only signal.

`pd-light-meaning`

Status: proposed.

Pair every light with a word, a number, or a position. MAGNUS Pro shows height as digits and uses arrow buttons, not color alone. Keep one written light table for the whole Thorbis hardware family, with each state and its non-color cue. Use the same meanings in every manual and product page.

Why: Some people cannot tell green from red, so a light that only changes color leaves them without the message.

### Indicators sit flush.

`pd-light-flush`

Status: proposed.

The control and its light are in the surface, not hanging under it. MAGNUS Pro puts the height panel in the front edge. A box bolted under a desk is what a knee hits.

Why: A control that sticks out is what a knee hits; flush is how the front edge stays a front edge.

Sources: [Mediaberry, MAGNUS Pro review](https://mediaberry.co.uk/secretlab-magnus-pro-desk-review/), [PCMag, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/secretlab-magnus-pro), [PCGamesN, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcgamesn.com/secretlab-magnus-pro-review)

### Idle hardware goes dark.

`pd-light-dim`

Status: proposed.

Lights dim or sleep when the product is idle. A standby switch that kills the backlight, as on MAGNUS Pro, is the right idea. A desk that glows all night is a night light.

Why: When idle hardware is dark, any light that comes on means something; a desk that glows all night teaches people to stop looking.

## Logo and badge placement

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

One mark, small, white or tonal, where the product is seen at rest. It is made the way the surface is made. It does not light up, and it is not repeated.

### One mark, where it rests.

`pd-logo`

Status: proposed.

Place a single small mark where the eye lands at rest: high on a back, on a front lip, centered on a lid. Do not repeat it on the side, the foot, and the cable.

Why: One small mark where the eye rests is confidence; the same mark on every panel is nervous.

### No badge stack on the body.

`pd-logo-no-badge-stack`

Status: proposed.

Certification marks go on the spec page, the rating label, or the underside. Award seals, partner logos, and stickers do not sit on the face the customer sees.

Why: Award stickers and partner badges on the face age badly and cover the material.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Secretlab resources, spec sheet and assembly](https://secretlab.co/pages/resources)

### Make the mark the way you make the surface.

`pd-logo-method`

Status: proposed.

Embroider on textile. Etch on metal. Print on a coated panel. The TITAN Evo spec lists logo stitching as machine embroidery. A stuck-on badge is a different product.

Why: An embroidered mark on fabric and an etched mark on metal belong; a stuck-on badge does not.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [TITAN Evo technical specification](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-titan-evo-technical-specification.pdf)

### The logo does not light up.

`pd-logo-not-a-light`

Status: proposed.

The mark is visible in room light because of contrast, not because it emits light. A glowing logo is an advertisement on the object.

Why: A glowing logo is an ad on the object; the mark can be read in the room without emitting light.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [MacBook Pro](https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/), [PCGamesN, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcgamesn.com/secretlab-magnus-pro-review)

## Packaging and unboxing

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

The box is the first use of the product. Parts come out in order, protected, with the tool and one large sheet. Fiber does the job plastic used to do.

### Protect every part, and include the tool.

`pd-box`

Status: proposed.

Upholstered parts stay bagged. Metal sits on foam. Small parts live in a labeled box. The toolkit is in the carton: the TITAN Evo manual lists a magnetic screwdriver, a reversible bit, an allen key, and the screws. Heavy cartons get handles. Secretlab's own chair is a one-person build; do not ship a dense box the owner cannot lift.

Why: Assembly is the first hour with the product; a missing tool or a loose screw mix wastes it.

Sources: [TITAN Evo manual, parts list](https://device.report/manual/15305002), [TITAN Evo user manual](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-titanEvo-2022-user-manual.pdf), [ZDNET, TITAN Evo review](https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/home-entertainment/secretlab-titan-evo-2022-series-gaming-chair-review/), [WhatIfGaming, TITAN Evo assembly](https://whatifgaming.com/secretlab-titan-evo-2022-review/), [Secretlab FAQ, assembly and magnets](https://secretlab.co.uk/pages/faq)

### Fiber where fiber works.

`pd-fiber`

Status: proposed.

New packaging is fiber: paperboard, molded pulp, a paper tab or tuck. No loose plastic bags and no foam peanuts when pulp can hold the part. Large boxes break down flat for a home bin. Plastic remains only where a part would be damaged without it, and the spec says why.

Why: The box is the first thing they touch and the first thing they throw away; loose plastic stays in the bin.

### One large sheet, pictures first.

`pd-box-one-sheet`

Status: proposed.

Instructions are one sheet the size of the work, readable from the floor. Pictures lead, words follow. A video is the backup, linked with a QR code, not the only manual.

Why: A sheet they can see from the floor beats a booklet they have to hold open with a knee.

### Parts come out in assembly order.

`pd-box-order`

Status: proposed.

The sheet is on top. Then the body. Then the small-parts box. Do not make the owner dig past a bag of screws to find the thing they are building.

Why: If the screws come out before the body, they start in the wrong place.

### Publish the build time.

`pd-box-time`

Status: proposed.

State how long assembly takes and whether one person can do it. TITAN Evo is documented around 20 minutes for most people, with reviewers landing between about 10 and 30. If a product needs two people, say so on the box.

Why: An owner plans the afternoon around the build, and a surprise second person or an extra hour ruins that plan.

### Print the contents and the fiber figure.

`pd-box-contents`

The Surface Pro 7 fact sheet lists the device, a 65 W supply, a quick start guide, and safety documents, and says the keyboard and pen are sold separately. The 11th Edition fact sheet lists the device, a quick start guide, safety documents, and a 39 W supply only with specific configurations in select markets, and it says the keyboard and pen are sold separately. Its packaging line is paper-based, minimizing plastic, with virgin paper from FSC-certified sources. Microsoft's Surface sustainability page, updated 16 June 2026, prints model-specific fiber figures, including at least 70 percent recycled content in wood-based fiber packaging for Surface Pro 13-inch and 72 percent recycled content in 100 percent fiber-based packaging for the 13.8-inch and 15-inch laptops, using IEEE 1680.1. Print what is in the box, whether power and the keyboard are included, and the fiber figure for that box.

Why: A box called thoughtful is not a spec until its model-specific fiber figure, contents, and separately sold accessories are printed.

## Ergonomics and sizing

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

Lead with the body, then the mechanism. Sizes publish height, weight, and max load. Ranges are numbers, in the same units as the size guide.

### Lead with the body.

`pd-ergo`

Status: proposed.

Say the human outcome before the part name: pressure in the seat, a curve that meets the spine, a reach to the control, a wrist that stays neutral. The TITAN Evo page puts the pebble seat and the lumbar system next to how a person moves, not as a bare trademark.

Why: People buy a chair for their back, not for a lattice of hinges; say the body outcome first.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [Secretlab SoftWeave Plus](https://secretlab.co/pages/softweave)

### Publish height, weight, and max load.

`pd-size`

Status: proposed.

Every size gets a recommended height, a recommended weight, and a maximum load, and those are three different numbers. Secretlab's 6 June 2026 size guide prints TITAN Evo Small at or under 169 cm and under 90 kg, Regular at 170 to 189 cm and under 100 kg, and XL at 181 to 205 cm and 80 to 180 kg. The Secretlab SG FAQ adds the max weight: Small 130 kg, Regular 130 kg, and XL 180 kg. The 180 kg figure is the XL limit, not the limit for Small or Regular.

Why: Recommended weight is not the maximum load, so using the smaller number as the limit, or the largest size's limit for every size, orders the wrong chair.

Sources: [Secretlab, TITAN Evo size guide, 6 June 2026](https://blog.secretlab.co/stories/how-to-find-the-right-secretlab-chair-size-for-you/), [Secretlab SG FAQ, TITAN Evo max weight](https://secretlab.sg/pages/faq)

### Print the adjustment range.

`pd-ergo-range`

Status: proposed.

The word adjustable is not a spec. Publish degrees, centimeters, and kilograms: seat height, recline, armrest travel, desk height. MAGNUS Pro lists a height range and a max weight on the product page.

Why: Adjustable is not a range; degrees, centimeters, and kilograms are.

Sources: [Secretlab MAGNUS Pro](https://secretlab.co/pages/magnus-pro), [TITAN Evo technical specification](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-titan-evo-technical-specification.pdf), [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series)

### Name the contact surface.

`pd-ergo-contact`

Status: proposed.

Identify what touches the person and what it is for. Cold-cure foam is specified as medium-firm for support. A magnetic head pillow is there for the neck, and it snaps on without straps. A steel desktop is not the work surface; the mat is.

Why: Comfort is decided where the body meets the product, so naming that surface and its job turns a comfort promise into something a buyer can check.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [PCMag, MAGNUS Pro review](https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/secretlab-magnus-pro), [Mediaberry, MAGNUS Pro review](https://mediaberry.co.uk/secretlab-magnus-pro-desk-review/)

### Say which size when they overlap.

`pd-size-overlap`

Status: proposed.

Regular and XL both cover some heights. When two sizes fit, the page says who should choose which, and why. Leaving that blank turns into a return.

Why: Where two sizes both fit, say who should pick which; silence there becomes a support ticket.

### Print the hinge range for that generation.

`pd-hinge-stated`

Status: proposed.

The 18 June 2012 Surface release describes a built-in kickstand and does not give it a degree range. The 22-degree figure in that release is the angle of the chassis edge, not the hinge. Surface Pro 3's note states a friction hinge from zero to 150 degrees. The May 2017 Surface Pro spec and the Surface Pro 7 fact sheet state a full-friction multi-position hinge to 165 degrees, and the 2017 note ties that end to writing and drawing. The 11th Edition fact sheet repeats a kickstand with a 165-degree full friction hinge. Print the stated range for that generation, and the posture the end of the range is for.

Why: The stated Surface hinge range grew from 150 to 165 degrees between generations, so a range copied from an older page is wrong for the one on sale.

### State the display ratio and the work it is for.

`pd-display-ratio`

Status: proposed.

Panos Panay's 20 May 2014 Surface Pro 3 note says the 3:2 ratio came from a piece of paper, so the 12-inch 2160 by 1440 screen would feel familiar in portrait and in landscape. The 19 May 2026 Surface for Business note says the 3:2 ratio is a productivity choice: vertical space for two documents side by side. The 11th Edition fact sheet prints aspect ratio 3:2 at 2880 by 1920. Print the ratio and the work it is for.

Why: Microsoft chose 3:2 for paper-shaped pages and two documents side by side, and a buyer can weigh that choice only when the page names the work.

## Modularity and accessories

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

Anything the owner swaps attaches one way, aligns itself, and matches the core finish. Wear parts come off with common tools, or with none. The system is priced on the product page.

### Swaps align themselves.

`pd-mag`

Status: proposed.

A part the owner changes is tool-free and self-aligning: magnetic or keyed so it cannot go on crooked. CloudSwap tops and the head pillow snap on. The manual has a neodymium safety section: pinch, medical devices, children, and cards. Print that, do not assume it.

Why: A part the owner swaps has to seat itself; if it can go on crooked, it will.

Sources: [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series), [CloudSwap Technogel armrest manual](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-cloudswap-technogel-user-manual.pdf), [Secretlab FAQ, assembly and magnets](https://secretlab.co.uk/pages/faq), [TITAN Evo user manual](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-titanEvo-2022-user-manual.pdf)

### Accessories share the finish and the attach.

`pd-system`

Status: proposed.

Mats, cable anchors, hooks, and armrest tops use the core materials and one attachment. MAGNUS accessories magnet to the same steel top. A part that needs its own look and its own fastener is a different product.

Why: A mat, a hook, and a clip that share the finish feel designed; a mismatched add-on feels bolted on.

### Wear parts come off.

`pd-repair`

Status: proposed.

Casters, cushions, armrest tops, feet, and batteries are replaceable with common tools or none, and the manual shows the steps. Apple's environment page calls out an iPhone battery that comes out with a few simple tools. A glued wear part is a replacement sale.

Why: A cushion, a wheel, or a battery they can replace is a longer product; a glued wear part is a new sale.

### Sell the system on the product page.

`pd-system-sold-with`

Status: proposed.

If the desk needs the mat, or the chair is meant to take a swappable top, show that accessory on the same page with a price. Reviewers keep noting that MAGNUS gets expensive once the ecosystem is added. Do not reveal that at checkout.

Why: A needed accessory whose price first appears at checkout feels like a hidden fee, and MAGNUS reviewers already count the full system cost against the desk.

### One attach method per family.

`pd-attach-one`

Status: proposed.

Pick magnets, or a keyed clip, or a common screw, and use it for every swap in that family. Mixing magnets on the pillow with a proprietary bolt on the armrest means two manuals.

Why: Magnets for one part and a proprietary screw for the same kind of part means two manuals.

Sources: [CloudSwap Technogel armrest manual](https://assets.secretlab.co/assets/secretlab-cloudswap-technogel-user-manual.pdf), [Secretlab footrest with CloudSwap](https://secretlab.co/products/secretlab-professional-footrest-cloudswap-technology), [Secretlab TITAN Evo features](https://secretlab.co/pages/titan-evo-2022-series)

### For products with a pen or stylus, give it a home that charges it.

`pd-pen-home`

Status: proposed.

Microsoft's Slim Pen charge page says to place the pen with the button side facing out, that the LED lights while it charges and turns off when full, and that the host has to be powered because charging is wireless. The homes it lists are storage on the back of Surface Pro 12-inch, a bay under the Surface Laptop Studio keyboard, and the tray on the Surface Pro Flex Keyboard, the Surface Pro Keyboard with pen storage, and the Surface Pro Signature Keyboard. The 11th Edition fact sheet says those keyboards store and charge the pen, and that the pen is sold separately. For products with a pen or stylus, put a charging home on the product, show the charge state, and say when the pen is a separate purchase.

Why: A pen that lives in a drawer is empty the next time someone needs to write.

### Publish the service path before calling a part replaceable.

`pd-repair-guide`

Status: proposed.

iFixit scored the 2017 Surface Laptop 0 out of 10 because opening it damaged the machine and the processor, memory, and storage were soldered to the board. iFixit scored Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 8 out of 10 in their categories, citing manuals on launch day, screw symbols Microsoft calls Wayfinders, and a magnetic cover under the Pro kickstand for the drive. Microsoft Learn's SSD guide is written for qualified IT technicians and lists those generations among devices whose drives come out by the service guide, with shock and fire warnings. The 11th Edition fact sheet markets a removable solid-state drive and says repair uses visual icons and a service guide. Its footnote says a skilled technician follows that guide, that Microsoft tools may be sold separately, and that damage during repair sits outside the warranty unless the law says otherwise. The same limits are on the 19 May 2026 Surface for Business note, which also says repairs use commonly available tools and less glue. Publish the guide, the tool, who may open the product, and what the warranty does. Link to the model's guide and the compatible part for sale or qualified service available in each advertised region. If that path cannot be completed, state the limit instead of promising repair. A marketed removable drive is not a promise that any owner can swap it with no tool and no consequence.

Why: A part that comes out only by destroying the cover is not replaceable, so the guide, the tool, and who may open it belong in the spec.

Photograph the dark object on a quiet field so the white type reads. One product, one hero angle, and a render that matches the sheen of the real part.

### A quiet field behind a dark product.

`pd-photo-dark-field`

Status: proposed.

Hero frames put the product on a dark or neutral ground. White lettering has to survive the photo. A busy room, a window blowout, or a colored backdrop fights the object.

Why: White lettering on a dark finish is what makes the product recognizable, and a bright or busy background swallows both.

### One product in the hero.

`pd-photo-one-object`

Status: proposed.

The first frame is the thing being sold. Accessories, hands, and the rest of the system get their own frames. Two products in one hero make the buyer ask which one they clicked.

Why: Two products in the hero make the buyer ask which one they are looking at.

### Reuse one hero angle.

`pd-photo-angle`

Status: proposed.

Every product in the line uses the same three-quarter hero. Detail frames are straight-on close-ups of the joint, the mark, the control, and the material. Do not invent a new angle per SKU.

Why: A new camera angle on every SKU makes the line look like unrelated products.

### The render matches the sheen.

`pd-photo-real-finish`

Status: proposed.

A picture that is glossier, darker, or cleaner than the shipped finish is a false spec. Photograph the actual material and making process, including its sheen and any fingerprints visible in use.

Why: A render that is glossier than the object is a complaint on delivery day.

`pd-photo-scale`

Status: proposed.

If the buyer must judge size, include one frame with a hand or a known object. Do not fake scale by cropping tight. The size guide still carries the numbers.

Open with the name and one human claim, then the object. Each feature is one claim with a measurement that proves it. The size guide and a single spec table sit next to the buy choice.

### Name, one claim, then the object.

`pd-page-claim`

Status: proposed.

The first screen is the product name, one sentence about the person using it, and the product. Apple's MacBook Pro news opens on the machine and the chip. Secretlab opens on the chair. A feature grid can wait.

Why: If the first screen is a feature grid, they never see the object they are deciding to buy.

### One feature, one substantiated claim.

`pd-page-feature`

Status: proposed.

Each block names the human outcome, the mechanism, and the measurement that substantiates that specific claim, with its source, method, conditions, and baseline where applicable. A load rating proves load capacity, not comfort; recycled content proves recycled content, not durability. Do not stack unrelated claims in one block.

Why: One claim with its own measurement and source lets the buyer check what the feature actually does.

### One spec table.

`pd-spec`

Status: proposed.

Every product has one table: materials, construction, adjustment ranges, loads, and size. TITAN Evo publishes frame, foam, upholstery, and logo method on the features page, and a technical specification sheet from the resources page. Link the PDF. Do not make the PDF the only copy.

Why: Materials, construction, ranges, and loads in one table stop the questions support answers every week.

### Size sits next to the buy choice.

`pd-page-size`

Status: proposed.

The applicable height, weight, and load ranges are on the page beside the size picker. Show the model's outer dimensions on an axis-labeled drawing, including protrusions and the space needed for cables and ventilation. State dimensions without removable parts and internal component limits where applicable. A PDF download is a copy, not the only place the number lives.

Why: The size picker is where the decision happens, so a range kept only in a PDF is missing at that moment, and the wrong size comes back as a return.

### The page stays as quiet as the object.

`pd-page-quiet`

Status: proposed.

No countdown timers, no crossed-out prices that were never real, no badge confetti. The object, the size guide, and the spec table do the selling.

Why: A countdown and a fake crossed-out price argue with the object; the spec can sell it.

### Compare with the same rows.

`pd-page-compare`

Status: proposed.

If two models are compared, every row exists on both. A missing port or a missing size is a dash, not a deleted row. Chip, finish, and size stay separate columns.

Why: Rows that disappear between models hide a missing port; use the same rows, and a dash when it is absent.

The line name is short and stays for years. Size, material, edition, and the generation inside the product are separate words.

### The line name stays put.

`pd-name-line`

Status: proposed.

A line is one or two short words: TITAN Evo, MAGNUS Pro, MacBook Pro. Do not bake the size, the color, or the year into the line. A new year is not a new name.

Why: A name that changes with each size, color, or year makes last year's reviews, manuals, and support answers look like they are about a different product.

### Size letters match everywhere.

`pd-name-size`

Status: proposed.

Use the same size tokens on the box, the page, the spec, and the carton: S, R, and XL, or a published dimension. TITAN Evo's Small, Regular, and XL are the pattern. Do not invent a second code in the SKU that the page never shows.

Why: S, R, and XL only work if the box, the page, and the spec use the same letters.

### The material name is in the table.

`pd-name-material`

Status: proposed.

If you name a material, that exact name appears in the spec table next to its one claim. NEO Hybrid Leatherette and SoftWeave Plus are named on the page and in the materials list. Do not use a nickname in the headline and a different string in the table.

Why: A material name earns its place when the table repeats it next to the one number.

### Editions can leave.

`pd-name-edition`

Status: proposed.

An edition is a material finish or a collaboration with an end, not a new line name or a new brand accent. Describe the finish in plain Thorbis words. When the edition ends, the line name still makes sense.

Why: An edition can leave the catalog while the core name and electric-blue brand accent stay recognizable.

### Name the inside separately.

`pd-name-chip`

Status: proposed.

A board, a motor, or a cell generation gets its own short name. MacBook Pro stays the body; M5 Pro and M5 Max are the chips. Do not rename the object because the board changed.

Why: The body and the generation inside it are different names, so a new board does not force a new object.

### Keep the line, and split generation, size, and audience.

`pd-name-generation`

Status: proposed.

The line stayed Surface Pro while the generation label moved. The May 2017 note says that year's device was simply called Surface Pro. The 2024 fact sheet titles it Surface Pro 11th Edition and names the processor on its own line. The 19 May 2026 note uses Surface Pro for Business and Surface Laptop for Business, with 13-inch, 13.8-inch, and 15-inch as size words and the processor named apart from the product. Keep the line. Put generation, size, and audience in their own words. Keep the processor out of the product name.

Why: Buyers should recognize this year's machine as the same line, and tell the generation, the size, and the audience apart.

## Do's and don'ts

This is proposed physical-product guidance, not approved Thorbis rules. src/data/product-guidelines.ts is the canonical owner of wording, reasons, status, and sources; product-guidelines-why.ts is a derived compatibility export. This Markdown is generated, not independently maintained.

The flagship is dark, quiet, and specified. These are the moves that keep a Thorbis product in that lane, and the moves that push it out.

### Do ship the flagship dark.

`pd-do-dark-quiet`

Status: proposed.

Do: one dark body, white type, matte large surfaces. Don't: launch the core SKU in a loud color and call the dark version a limited edition.

Why: A loud flagship dates in a season; the dark body is the one still in the catalog five years later.

### Do place the mark once.

`pd-do-one-mark`

Status: proposed.

Do: one small white or tonal mark at rest. Don't: repeat the logo on every panel, the foot, the cable, and the power brick.

Why: A logo on every panel reads as nervous, and it covers the material people paid for.

### Don't add RGB to look futuristic.

`pd-dont-rgb`

Status: proposed.

Do not ship underglow, a chase, or a lit logo on core hardware. Secretlab sells a magnetic RGB strip as a MAGNUS add-on. That add-on is not the Thorbis pattern. Futuristic here means precise and dark, not lit.

Why: RGB, underglow, and a lit logo make hardware look like a gaming accessory, not a tool.

### Evidence proves the specific claim.

`pd-dont-unnamed-superlative`

Status: proposed.

Do not write military-grade, aerospace-grade, or premium unless a defined grade, standard, or measurable property and its cited evidence substantiate that exact qualifier. A measurement must prove the adjacent claim: 100% recycled proves recycled content, not aerospace grade; 2 kg proves mass, not premium quality. Name the material or measured property plainly when the qualifier cannot be substantiated.

Why: An unrelated number cannot prove a material grade or performance claim, so the buyer needs evidence for the exact qualifier.

### Do put the spec on the page.

`pd-do-spec-public`

Status: proposed.

Do: materials, ranges, and loads in one table beside the buy choice. Don't: leave max load in a support macro or a footnote on a retailer listing.

Why: A buyer who cannot find the max load before paying has to guess, ask support, or send the product back.

### Don't ship a bag of loose screws.

`pd-dont-plastic-confetti`

Status: proposed.

Do: labeled small-parts boxes, fiber where it holds, one sheet, the tool. Don't: an unlabeled screw mix, plastic bags as packing peanuts, and a booklet that assumes a second person who was never mentioned.

Why: A loose screw mix and a handful of plastic bags are a bad first hour and a bad bin.

## Product studies

- [Secretlab](/product/studies/secretlab): Secretlab designs the chair and the desk as one system: a body reason first, a named material with one number, magnets for anything the owner swaps, cables inside the product, a dark flagship, and a spec table. These observations inform proposals, not approved Thorbis rules.

- [Apple](/product/studies/apple): Apple's hardware lesson for Thorbis is a single mass, a dark finish that is actually a material process, one measured claim per material, fiber packaging, and a product page that leads with the object. The chip has its own name. The body keeps its name.

- [Surface](/product/studies/surface): Surface's hardware lesson for Thorbis is a stated hinge range, a display ratio tied to the work, a named metal that is allowed to change, a fabric cover with a care method, a pen that has a charging home, a service path before a replaceable part, a box that lists its contents, and a line name that stays while generation, size, and audience move. These observations inform proposals, not approved Thorbis rules.

- [Xbox hardware](/product/studies/xbox-hardware): Orientation, airflow, finish, hand contact, swappable parts, and packaging behind Xbox hardware, read toward a dark Thorbis body with white lettering.

- [Tesla physical products](/product/studies/tesla-products): Purposeful controls, material care, accessory interfaces, and recovery behind a restrained product.

- [Braun and Dieter Rams physical products](/product/studies/braun-products): Restrained tools, a shared house line, named finishes, tool-free kits, and repair paths with a printed type code.

- [Teenage Engineering hardware](/product/studies/teenage-engineering-hardware): Color that carries one meaning, a family that shares a footprint, named contact materials, a kit with its build sheet, published clearances, and a box that keeps a use, read toward a dark Thorbis body with white lettering.

- [Dyson hardware](/product/studies/dyson-hardware): Finish, visible mechanism, motor placement, measured light, service intervals, and spec tables behind Dyson hardware, read toward a dark Thorbis body with white lettering.

- [Nothing hardware](/product/studies/nothing-hardware): A written light table shared across products, addressable light published as segment and zone counts, scoped packaging and material claims, durability tests with their limits, and a repair claim set against the repair record, read toward a dark Thorbis body with white lettering.
