Dyson hardware

Finish, visible mechanism, motor placement, measured light, service intervals, and spec tables behind Dyson hardware, read toward a dark Thorbis body with white lettering.

Status: research-only. Checked: 2026-10-09.

Cordless vacuums and the Supersonic hair dryer, from English Dyson pages opened on 2026-10-09. Yellow, red attach buttons, Prussian Blue and Rich Copper, Vinca Blue and Rosé, and Nickel/Copper are observed finishes, not Thorbis direction. Thorbis direction is Byron's dark body and white lettering. This is not a visual clone of a Dyson machine.

Yellow, red, and the hair-care colorways are Dyson finishes.

The colors, materials and finishes essay says a dedicated team started in 2016 at Hullavington and works from function, emotion, and senses. It dates the DC01 to 1993, and says that at launch Dyson chose a grey silver fleck to emphasize geometry and steel-like strength, and yellow for high visibility and an association with heavy industrial machinery. As the range grew, color differentiated families. Bright red marks the vacuum buttons that attach and detach parts. The essay says the machines became darker: flecked grey silver was replaced by an iron-like color, with deep blue and purple to highlight the technology, plus an anodized metallic finish. Metallic flake resin produces flow lines. The essay says most manufacturers would remove those lines, and Dyson celebrates them, so no two machines look the same. Prussian Blue and Rich Copper is an exclusive hair-care colorway inspired by Dyson's automotive project, pairing a copper accent with the dark blue chosen for that car's interior, to leave the shades of black common in the automotive industry. Vinca Blue and Rosé is a porcelain-like satin topcoat, described as dry to the touch. The refurbished Supersonic page sells that dryer as Nickel/Copper.

Proposed translation: Ship the Thorbis flagship as one dark body with white lettering. Thorbis electric blue is the only brand accent in the proposed color rules. Yellow, red attach buttons, purple highlights, Prussian Blue and Rich Copper, Vinca Blue and Rosé, and Nickel/Copper stay observed Dyson finishes. A loud color is a named edition, described in plain material words.

Why: A high-visibility yellow, or a red button on a dark body, is a second brand color.

Refuse: Adopting Dyson yellow, the red attach buttons, iron-and-purple highlights, Prussian Blue and Rich Copper, Vinca Blue and Rosé, or Nickel/Copper as a Thorbis colorway.

Proof required: Check the core SKU against the dark-body rule, and name any yellow, red, or metallic edition before it is offered.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

The clear bin and the nickel cap are how the mechanism shows.

The same essay says the latest cordless materials are chosen for strength and lightness. The clear bin is polycarbonate, which the essay compares to the material used in riot shields. The wand is double walled: an ultra-thin aluminum outer tube, spelled aluminium on the page, and a plastic inner tube. The inner wand is engineered to a tolerance of 0.07 mm so it fits securely and comes off easily. The nickel coated cyclone cap is meant to look and feel machined. The painting process started at three coats and, after the facility changed, reaches that look in a single coat.

Proposed translation: Name the material under the hand, the wand fit tolerance, and whether the sheen is one coat. If a volume has to be seen, make it a window in a dark body. Do not treat the riot-shield comparison as a Thorbis safety claim.

Why: The part in the hand is the product, and a tolerance the page omits becomes a loose wand.

Refuse: Copying the clear bin, the nickel cyclone cap, the double-wall wand, or the polycarbonate comparison.

Proof required: On a sample, record the touch material, the wand fit, and whether a clear window is the body or an insert.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

The small motor sits in the handle, and the two heat-check rates do not match.

The lean engineering page says the digital motor V9 is 27 mm wide, was created for the Supersonic hair dryer, and is housed in the handle to shift the center of gravity. It spins up to 110,000 rpm, on average six times faster than other hair-dryer motors, while up to one third of the weight. The sentence does not name those other motors. The page pairs it with the Air Multiplier technology used in Dyson fans. It also says every digital motor is assembled by robots working within micron accuracy, and that prototypes are tested for thousands of hours. The refurbished Supersonic Nickel/Copper page says the V9 spins up to 110,000 rpm and propels 13 liters of air to the amplifier every second. Its table lists weight 1.8 lb, height 9.6 in, length 3.8 in, width 3.1 in, sound 77 dBA, power 1,600 W, airflow 13 l/s, and 110 to 120 V. Heat settings are 212 F, 176 F, 140 F, and 82 F, plus an 82 F cold shot, with three speeds. Magnetic attachments fit and rotate. Intelligent heat control on that page measures airflow temperature over 40 times, and does not say per second. The finishes essay says a glass bead thermistor on the Supersonic, Airwrap, and Corrale measures temperature up to 100 times a second. Those are not the same sentence.

Proposed translation: Put the heavy part where the hand balances, and publish the dimension that made that placement possible, the weight, and each heat setting. Keep 'over 40 times' and '100 times a second' as separate page claims. Do not adopt 'six times faster' or 'one third of the weight' without the named comparison.

Why: A motor left in the head is a weight the wrist feels and the page may never name.

Refuse: Copying the Supersonic loop, the handle motor housing, the Air Multiplier rings, or the Nickel/Copper finish.

Proof required: Weigh a sample in the hand, record the balance point, and match each published heat setting to a measurement.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

Filtration, suction, and cyclone force are not one number.

The March 24, 2021 V15 launch says a Hyperdymium motor generates up to 230 air watts, marked [1], and that 5-stage filtration captures 99.99 percent of dust down to 0.3 microns, marked [2]. The footnote block on that page labels superscript 2 as FC003 for air watts and superscript 3 as FC035 for HEPA filtration, so the printed notes do not use the sentence numbers. The filtration essay says pre- and post-motor filters remove 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns, and printed footnote [1] says that was tested against EN 60312-1 5.11 in boost mode. The next sentence says V15 Detect Absolute whole-machine HEPA traps 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.1 microns, and that sentence's link points at the same footnote anchor as the 0.3 micron sentence. Printed footnote [2] is a formaldehyde page at cdc.gov. Printed footnote [7] says whole-machine efficiency above 99.95 percent in Max mode at IBR US. Printed footnote [6], 0.1 microns under EN1822 and ISO29463, sits on the purifier sentence about 24 extra seal points. The essay also says HEPA performance is usually a minimum of 99.95 percent at the most penetrating particle size, and that an ASTM whole-machine standard asks every filter and seal, not only the last filter, to be HEPA-grade. The V15 Detect Pro page lists suction power as 240 AW with no mode on that line, and later says whole-machine filtration traps 99.99 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns, marked 3. Footnote 3 says 'In Boost mode. All other models achieve at least 99.97% filtration.' Its cyclones are up to 100,000 g, and the motor is up to 125,000 rpm. The V11 Extra page lists 185 AW in both the Powerful and Boost rows, says it captures 99.99 percent of microscopic particles, and in the same block says filtration reaches 0.1 microns. Its dagger footnote says 'In Boost mode. All other modes achieve at least 99.97% filtration.' Fourteen cyclones there generate more than 79,000 g. The lean engineering page says laboratory vacuum tests use empty machines, and that Dyson does not engineer vacuums to satisfy those tests.

Proposed translation: Publish one percentage, one particle size, one mode, one model, and the test name on the same line. Do not borrow 240 air watts, 100,000 g, or 99.99 percent from a different model, and do not treat an empty-machine lab test as the in-home result.

Why: Three official pages give three filtration percentages, so a reader cannot tell which machine was measured.

Refuse: Treating 99.99 percent, 100,000 g, 230 air watts, or a Dyson cyclone stack as a Thorbis requirement.

Proof required: Put the test name, the mode, and the model on one line of the Thorbis spec table before any percentage is published.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

The long axis is height on one vacuum and length on the other.

On October 9, 2026 the V11 Extra specifications list height 10.3 in, length 49.4 in, and width 9.8 in, with weight 6.53 lb. The V15 Detect Pro specifications list height 49.6 in, length 10.5 in, and width 9.8 in, with weight 6.83 lb. Both are cordless stick vacuums. Neither table says which edge the column name refers to beyond the word height or length. The long dimension is called length on V11 Extra and height on V15 Detect Pro.

Proposed translation: Publish one table per model, with a drawing that marks height, length, and width. Do not reuse another model's numbers, and do not swap the axis name between products.

Why: A length labeled as height will not fit the closet the owner measured.

Refuse: Adopting 6.53 lb, 6.83 lb, or either stick proportion as a Thorbis specification.

Proof required: Mark height on a drawing of the Thorbis sample, then measure that edge and publish only that number.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

The dust light has a room-light limit, and one of them cannot be switched off.

The 2021 launch says a green laser diode was chosen because it gives the best contrast. It sits at a 1.5 degree angle, 7.3 mm off the floor, in the Slim Fluffy cleaner head. An acoustic piezo sensor sizes and counts particles up to 15,000 times a second, and an LCD shows the size and the quantity. In auto mode, a high dust reading raises suction, then suction returns to the previous level. A footnote says the laser is for hard floors, that ambient light, debris, and the surface change how well it works, and that the laser is only on the Fluffy cleaner head. The V15 support guide says the effect is visible in up to roughly 500 lux, about a well-lit kitchen, and that direct sunlight, on the order of 10,000+ lux, cannot be outshone. It says the eye is more sensitive to green than to any other color. The Fluffy Optic light is an LED and cannot be turned off. The Laser Slim Fluffy is a Class 1 laser and has a slide button. The guide describes that illuminated head as 9.8 inches wide, says the lens can be wiped with a microfiber cloth, and says the light is not waterproof. The V15 Detect Pro page says the LCD shows what has been sucked up, and that the screen uses up to 1.5 watts, which the page says will not noticeably impact run time. Its piezo line is marked 2, and footnote 2 says accuracy may vary and is best in Auto mode.

Proposed translation: A light that reveals a measured state must say what it measures, the ambient light that defeats it, whether the owner can turn it off, and that it is not waterproof when that is true. A Thorbis status light is white, with one meaning, and it can go dark. Do not hide a second brand color in the beam.

Why: A light that cannot be switched off, or that disappears in daylight, is a feature the owner cannot trust.

Refuse: Copying the green laser, the cleaner-head shape, the LCD layout, or a beam the owner cannot switch off.

Proof required: In a measured room light, record whether the indicator still reads, and whether one control turns it off.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

The filter has a month, a dry time, and a guarantee that skips it.

The V15 Detect Pro page says the screen reminds the owner to clean the filter, usually about once a month and more often with heavy use, with the steps in the operating manual. It says the washable filter can be reused for the life of the machine. A full charge takes up to 4.5 hours. The headline offers up to 120 minutes from two click-in batteries. Footnote 1 says that figure is Eco mode on a hard floor, and that 120 minutes is consecutive use of two separate packs. The specifications table lists maximum run time as 60 min. The carton list includes an additional battery and an additional filter, and click-in batteries can be charged on or off the machine. The filter spare page suggests cleaning the filter once a month and says the part is compatible with V15 Detect and V11 vacuums. The V11 Extra page says the 2-year guarantee covers the battery and not the filter, and that only a genuine Dyson battery or filter keeps the machine working as intended and the guarantee intact. After a wash, that page says to dry the filter for at least 24 hours in airflow, and not in a tumble dryer, a microwave, or near a naked flame. Its run-time footnote says the time varies with mode, dust, floor, and attachments. The V15 support guide says the filter and brush bar on the Laser Slim Fluffy and Fluffy Optic heads can be washed, and the bin and tools wiped.

Proposed translation: Name the wash interval, the dry time, whether the guarantee covers that part, and whether a second battery is in the carton. Put the one-pack run time and the two-pack run time on separate lines, each with its mode.

Why: A filter the guarantee excludes, with no dry time, is a return after the first wash.

Refuse: Copying the click-in battery, the bin eject, or a 120-minute claim that needs two packs.

Proof required: Wash the filter, time the dry, and confirm the carton count of batteries against both run-time lines.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

Some tools live on the machine, and one head color may vary.

The V11 Extra carton list includes a wall-mounted docking station that recharges the vacuum and stores tools, a wand clip for the combination tool and the crevice tool, and a charger that works with or without the Wall Dok. The page does not say the docking station and the Wall Dok are the same part. One block says the three power modes are changed with a single button, and that maintenance alerts can be viewed. The Motorbar on that page has 43 de-tangling vanes. The V15 Detect Pro carton list includes a Digital Motorbar whose colors may vary, a hair screw tool, a combination tool, a low-reach adaptor, a crevice tool, a charger, a docking station, an additional battery, and an additional filter. It describes three cleaning modes and does not say the mode control is a single button. The refurbished Supersonic page says magnetic styling attachments fit and rotate, and its carton list names a gentle-air attachment, a diffuser, a wide-tooth comb, a styling concentrator, and a flyaway attachment.

Proposed translation: List every tool in the carton, say which ones clip to the product, and say when the head color may vary. Use one attach method. A mode control is one press, and the page should say which products have that single press.

Why: A tool that lives on the wand is part of the product, and a head whose color may vary is not the finish the photo sold.

Refuse: Copying the wand clip, the Wall Dok, the hair screw, the cleaner head, or the magnetic hair attachments.

Proof required: Match the carton to the list, clip each stored tool, and record the head color against the finish name.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

The carton is designed with the product, and recyclable is not a material list.

The lean engineering page says packaging is designed in parallel with the products, that both go through the same testing so the technology arrives safely and is exciting to unbox, and that only necessary materials and energy are used. It does not name those materials, an open order, or a time. The refurbished Supersonic page says machines ship in a brand-new recyclable box, secured for transit and aimed at minimal waste. It also says a refurbished machine can show cosmetic marks, from micro scratches to discoloration of paint. It does not say the box is fiber-only, and it does not describe how the shipper opens.

Proposed translation: Design the carton with the product and test it the same way. Then name the materials and which colorway includes a case. Do not read the word recyclable as fiber-only.

Why: A carton designed after the product is a leftover, and a recyclable box is not yet a material list.

Refuse: Copying a Dyson presentation case, or claiming a plastic-free carton these pages do not describe.

Proof required: List every carton material, then time a one-person unboxing and record any tool it still needs.

Thorbis specimen verification: unperformed.

Evidence gaps

Current Gen5detect and consumer Supersonic selectors

On October 9, 2026 the Gen5detect Prussian blue URL and the consumer Supersonic nickel/copper URL redirected to category indexes, so those selectors were not read.

Open a product URL whose canonical page is the named colorway before describing a current finish selector.

Logo method, on-product type, and badge size

The pages read describe paint, color, and a nickel cap. They do not describe how the wordmark is made, its size, or whether it lights.

Open a primary design or support source that states the mark method before any logo translation.

V15 Detect Pro technical specification and operating manual

The Pro page links a technical specification PDF that had no text layer, and an operating manual whose first page lists contents under the header SV12. Later manual pages did not finish extracting, so no procedure from either PDF is used here.

Read a text-layer spec sheet and the matching manual for the same model code before publishing a service step.

Comparisons with no named counterpart

The lean page's 'six times faster' and 'one third of the weight' do not name the other motors. The finishes essay's riot-shield comparison does not name a test.

Cite the compared product and the test before using either sentence as evidence.

Thorbis balance, filtration, opening, and repair time

Manufacturer pages identify features and published figures. They are not a Thorbis specimen test.

Pass the research intake gate and test a Thorbis sample before any proposal becomes a requirement.
